Check out the Inn at Westwynd Farm, a cozy B&B for
some romantic R&R
By E.K. Levy So cabin fever is setting in. The
crisp winter air beckons, and you're trying to decide
how to spend the weekend. Why not pack up your sweetie,
drop the kids with your parents or friends, and escape
to the comfort and luxury of a B&B for some cozy R&R?
Sound too complicated or expensive? Here's the real
beauty part (actually that comes with the scenery), why
not save on gas and just get away up the road at the Inn
at Westwynd Farm?
Located at 1620 Sand Beach Rd., it lives up to its
advertising. A brochure describes seven-room inn calls
it a "Bed & Breakfast midst rolling hills, horses and
pastures near Hershey, Pennsylvania."
From the moment you turn onto the long gravel drive, you
realize you have arrived at a special place. The
beautiful inn with its calming landscape will come into
view and you will discover all of the vast and lovely
surroundings of the farm. You may spot a horse or two or
even a couple of alpacas-new to the inn this year.
Outside swing on the wraparound porch, the gorgeous
stone waterfall or the outdoor fireplace on the lower
east patio. Or take a walk to the pond and explore a
variety of paths around the grounds.
Inside, a host of quiet nooks and warm accommodations
will make anyone feel welcome. The scent of warm cookies
or other baked goods fresh from the oven waft through
the inn most of the day. Or you can check out the
library's reading materials, a computer for guest use, a
television and a selection of classical and jazz CDs.
Carolyn Troxell and her husband Frank offer so much more
than breakfast and room. Along with homemade breads and
waffles, Carolyn always offers a special egg dish as
well. The goodies don't stop at breakfast either.
Throughout the day you can find sweet treats on a table
near the door. Downstairs in the great room, you will
also discover a host of beverages-from tea to wine-for
every time of the day or night.
Every room offers a different experience of its own as
well. As unique as the quilt that drapes each bed, robes
in the closet, and warm decorative touches, every room
has its own personality. Named for the Troxell's horses,
the rooms range in price. On the more modest end, the
Serendipity with its antiques, queen-sized bed, and a
private bath offers a cozy retreat for $79 a night in
winter. Its window offers "the best view at the Inn."
On the other end of the scale, an amazing suite called
In Our Time has "a slightly foreign flavor" and features
a king bed, a private Jacuzzi tub for two and a
fireplace. This room goes for $129 from Nov. 1 through
March 31. Call to check on summer rates.
You may prefer Fortune's Return, a garden-inspired room
that has a king bed, a private bath and its own
fireplace; or if you decide to bring the children (five
years old or older), you can stay in the Roman Canon and
house the children in Penny Power with its twin beds.
The two rooms share a bath and offer a great opportunity
for a family outing.
